Thanks to the Future Internet Assembly in Aalborg (7-11-May 2012) the Life 2.0 project came into the spotlight of the Danish newspaper. A journalist visited the pilot site of Kastanjegaarden during one of our meeting with testers to verify and co-design the Life 2.0 platform. His reportage (in Danish) is available here.

Rasmus Hjorth Nielsen presented the LIfe 2.0 project at the Future Internet Week in Aalborg (7-11 May 2012) to an audience of researchers, companies, members of the EU commission and IT experts. The discussion clearly emphasised the opportunity for elderly people to have a more intense participation into social life and their potential role in new welfare models.

We tend to consider elderly people as passive and weak people, whereas they (beside escaping the most common generalisations) are active people, who have several resources at their disposal, including knowledge (practical, social, historical), time and attention. The Life 2.0 project is a possible solution to circulate this knowledge, to give them an opportunity to better organise their social life and to feel they are important for their community.

Life 2.0 General Assembly and workshop in Aalborg

Life 2.0 is getting in the “mature” phase. The General Assembly in Aalborg and the following workshop were an opportunity to discuss the coming applications in the Life 2.0 platform, to compare use experience in the various regions and to discuss possible business models to ensure economically sustainable conditions for the Life 2.0 platform, even after the funding period.

The consortium members also visited the Life 2.0 Demo-room in the training centre in Kastanjegaarden and met some of the Danish users. Here the consortium members where welcomed by Aalborg Kommune alderman Tina French Nielsen and by the Coordinator of the Elderly and Handikap Section of Aalborg Kommune, Gytte Gade.

We discussed the Life 2.0 platform and the link between the project and the “senior digital” project, a project to introduce online public services to elderly people in Aalborg, but this was a good chance for the Aalborg users to see who is behind this project and for all the technical partners to ask direct questions on how to improve the service.

Life 2.0 presented at the Velfærdesteknologi Conference in Aalborg

On the 19.4.2012 the Life 2.o project has been presented at the COHERE conference in Aalborg. The conference was an opportunities for learning, exchanging experience and inspiration around the theme ’Innovative Education for Active Ageing’. Anelia Mitzeva and Hanne Hjorth Andreasen illustrated and proposed a demonstration of the system to 140 participants and experts in welfare technologies from many different countries. The participants were extremely interested in using the platform for many purposes, including linking care givers and students to get a better and more informal contact with elderly people.

The mutual help application

The “mutual help” application is taking off. Senior people will be able to offer help (to teach piano, or to help with gardening or with cooking or to give a lift to their neighbors) or to request help (to repair a lamp or to pick up a book from the library).

A call for interest for Danish companies

The Nord Denmark EU office has sent a call for interest (in Danish) for Danish companies that can use the Life 2.0 platform as an opportunity to get closer to their market of elderly people.

Life 2.0 at Innovation X

On the 29.March 2012 Nicola Morelli and Anelia Mitzeva presented the LIfe 2.0 project at the Innovation X conference in Aalborg. Innovation X is one of the most relevant opportunities to link the project to local business in Denmark.

The presentation included an overview of the project and a discussion about the possibilities that a social platform like Life 2.0 can offer to local small businesses to get closer to the emerging market of elderly people

Life 2.0 at Innovation X, Denmark

On the 29.3.2012 the LIfe 2.0 project will be presented at the Innovation X, at the NOVI Business park, in Aalborg. Nicola Morelli, technical coordinator (AAU) and Anelia Mitseva, Coordinator of the Pilot project (AAK) will be present the project and the opportunities it offers to business in Nord Jutland. The Innovation X event that attracts 70-100 people from companies in Nord Jutland, to discuss how to share, and use the best capabilities and ideas in the region.

Brochures and information about the Life 2.0 project will be distributed in the meeting.
